Turkish outlet Ajansspor claim Southampton are in talks to sign USA World Cup striker Haji Wright for a bargain £8.8million from SuperLig side Antalyaspor – with the striker in stunning form this season, for both club and country.

Wright, 24, has been in excellent form ever since joining the Turkish side. Last season, he scored 15 goals in 35 games after joining the club from Denmark. This season, his form has gone up a level and is attracting a number of clubs.

But it seems the Saints are leading the chase. Wright has 11 goals in 17 games this term, shining in Turkish football and then getting his name on the score sheet at the World Cup in Qatar. SuperLig side Antalyaspor want a fee of £8.8m.

While there are offers from Russia, England, China, Italy and Saudi Arabia – the report claims the strongest offer comes from that of Southampton. The Saints are negotiating for a fee between £7million and £8.8million for the USA star.

The Saints need fire power at the top of the pitch. They have brought in a couple of new signings already, and Nathan Jones has improved their form. Wins over Palace and Manchester City in the Cups, the Everton on the weekend away.

A huge win, at Goodison Park. Wins are breeding confidence and showing interested parties that they have every chance of securing survival in the Premier League come the end of the season. Wright will surely be tempted to move.

What Wright is, is a player full of confidence with experience at both National Team level and at club level. Yes, the Turkish league is far below Premier League standards. But, it is a low-risk signing for a player in confidence, and cheap.
