Southampton are reportedly considering a move for Domenico Tedesco should the Saints sack Ralph Hasenhuttl, with the Austrian manager under pressure after a rough start to the new season.

According to the Daily Mail, the former RB Leipzig head coach is on the list of possible candidates to take over at St. Mary’s should Southampton bite the bullet and sack Hasenhuttl in the coming days, with the Saints on the end of another loss this weekend as Manchester City handed the south coast side a 4-0 defeat.

Southampton sit 16th in the Premier League with confidence over a good season at the start of the campaign all-but evaporated. And now, Hasenhuttl’s job is on the line, with Tedesco a potential candidate to take over from the former Leipzig manager in the coming days.

The 37-year-old coach is one of the youngest currently working in the game, with Tedesco still Schalke 04’s youngest-ever manager ever with the Rossan-born figure finding success in the Bundesliga, Russian Premier League with Spartak Moscow and UEFA Champions League.

With Tedesco leading Leipzig to their first piece of major silverware last season in the form of the DFB Pokal, the former German top-flight manager has the potential to become an ideal fit for Southampton should Hasenhuttl face the sack in the coming days.

Indeed, at 37, Tedesco would become the youngest coach in the Premier League by some distance, yet for Southampton, this shift in direction could be an ideal decision for the south coast side given how young the squad currently is.

The Premier League managerial merry-go-round looks set to stop at Southampton next after the Saints’ latest defeat, and sacking Hasenhuttl for Tedesco would quite the move from the south coast side, with the 37-year-old yet to manage in the English top-flight.

Although Southampton have the squad to finish midtable in the division, Tedesco might find the task too much for him despite his previous successes over the years. And the Saints could benefit from drawing out their managerial search should they indeed sack Hasenhuttl next week.
