Southampton want Terem Moffi and are hoping to get a deal for the Lorient striker done quickly as the January transfer window looms.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Southampton have a real desire to bring Moffi to the Premier League in January.

Whilst a number of clubs have been impressed with Moffi and have an interest in signing him, it’s Southampton who are making the biggest push for his signature.

It’s pretty clear that Southampton need to find a new striker or two during the January transfer window.

Nathan Jones’ side have scored just 14 goals in 16 Premier League games this season and sit bottom of the table.

Only four players in the Southampton squad have scored more than one Premier League goal this season and only five goals have some from strikers in Che Adams and Adam Armstrong.

It’s time for Southampton to sign a striker but just who would they be signing in Moffi?

Who is Southampton target Terem Moffi?

Moffi, 23, hails from Nigeria and has picked up nine caps for his country, bagging three goals in the process.

Moffi’s professional career actually started in Lithuania with Kauno Zalgiris before smashing 20 goals in 29 games for rivals Riteriai.

The 6ft 2in forward earned himself a move to Belgium with Kortrijk in January 2020 and that’s when he really started to explode.

Five goals in 11 games – yes, just 11 games – saw Lorient swoop in and take Moffi to France.

Lorient’s gamble has absolutely paid off with Moffi smashing 33 goals and seven assists in 87 appearances.

Moffi has been on fire this season with 10 goals in 15 appearances for Lorient and a big move is surely coming soon.

That could come with Southampton but they are far from alone in this particular transfer race.

French outlet Jeunes Footeux reported earlier this month that Aston Villa are battling Brighton and Crystal Palace for Moffi.

Villa do have strikers in Ollie Watkins and former Southampton ace Danny Ings but seemingly want more firepower.

Moffi appears to be one name on the radar but Villa are now in real danger of missing out.

Southampton now hope to win the race – and the added competition is ultimately why they’re going to get this one done quickly.
