Goalkeeper Joe Lumley actually had a trial spell with Leeds United before securing a move to Championship rivals Southampton.
Leeds United had a look into signing goalkeeper Joe Lumley during pre-season.
That is according to a report from The Athletic, who claim that Lumley did come in on trial at Thorp Arch.
Leeds brought Sam Byram in on trial, initially just to help a former player stay fit having also played under Daniel Farke at Norwich City.
Byram ended up winning a contract with Leeds and has been playing a prominent role in the opening weeks of the new Championship season.
Byram wasn’t the only trialist though and was joined at the club by goalkeeper Lumley as he looked for a new club…

Leeds United had a look at Joe Lumley
It’s stated that Lumley joined up with Leeds ‘briefly’ with Leeds in the market for another goalkeeper.
The Whites saw Joel Robles move on over the summer and wanted an experienced Championship stopper to come in as competition for Illan Meslier.
Lumley was an option having been released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Reading and racked up 41 Championship appearances, whilst he also featured regularly with Boro and Queens Park Rangers in the past.
In the end, Leeds signed Karl Darlow from Newcastle United and he is now serving as backup to Meslier having maybe expected to be in contention for first-team minutes.

Lumley joined Southampton instead
Lumley left Leeds fairly quickly as he instead went to sign for Championship rivals Southampton.
A key factor here is that Southampton goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton coached Lumley in the QPR youth ranks.
Reuniting really appealed to Lumley, but he has yet to play a single minute in a Southampton shirt.
In fact, Lumley has only been in a matchday squad twice this season and appears to be third-choice at Southampton, behind Gavin Bazunu and Alex McCarthy.
