A run of seven Premier League games without a win, which has left the Magpies only two points clear of relegation, suggests reinforcements are required at St James’ Park this winter.
With a proposed takeover of the club seemingly no nearer to completion, however, manager Rafa Benitez may have to wheel and deal if he is to improve his Newcastle squad.
And speaking to the Geordie Boot Boys Youtube channel after their side’s home defeat at the hands of Leicester City on Saturday, the Toon Army faithful voiced their views.
There are no prizes for guessing which Newcastle players they would most like to see depart – look away now Joselu, Jack Colback and Mohamed Diame – although their suggested incomings – which include former Magpies winger Hatem Ben Arfa – are perhaps slightly more left-field.
One Newcastle fan, however, said that he wasn’t that fussed about new signings, pointing out that Newcastle need to promote some young talent. ‘I would like to see a lot more young-uns come through. I wish Beardsley would chase them up from the U23s and U21s and put them in this team. We need a new Beardsley. We need a new Waddle. We need a new Gazza’, he said.
