The Liverpool striker would be a useful addition to the Southampton squad.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will be desperate to add more firepower to his attacking ranks at St Mary’s over the course of the next couple of weeks, as he looks to build a group of players capable of improving upon last season’s eighth placed finish in the Premier League table.
The Argentine should be prioritising the addition of an established striker who possesses the attributes to help supplement the talents of Manolo Gabbiadini, and with this in mind, he should consider a move for Reds forward Danny Ings.
The 25-year-old has suffered horrendous luck with injuries during his time with Liverpool, but he is now back fully fit and firing on all cylinders.

He is likely to receive much game-time at Anfield, however, with Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino currently ahead of him in the pecking order, and a move away from Merseyside will surely help him fulfil his true potential.
Ings is incredibly driven, and is renowned for making selfless runs into the channels, which in turn creates more space for his teammates to operate in. This would make him the ideal partner for Gabbiadini, who is most effective when doing his work in and around the six yard box.
He is still under contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2020, so he certainly won’t come cheap, but Jürgen Klopp will surely be open to selling him, considering the wealth of talent at his disposal in the attacking department.
And Pellegrino should not hesitate to bring him to St Mary’s before the transfer window slams shut.
