Southampton should join the race for Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, who has made a brilliant start to life at Ibrox.

In terms of Southampton’s best signings over the last decade, there are arguably few deals that have proved to look as good as the signing of Steven Davis who left Rangers in 2012.
Davis has been a fantastic servant for the Saints, making 200 appearances for the south coast club in all competitions, and helping them establish themselves as top-half contenders in the Premier League.

With Davis one of a number of players who have traded the Scottish Premiership for St Mary’s in recent years – Virgil van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and Fraser Forster have made similar moves – Southampton should therefore have no hesitation in becoming the latest club to register an interest in Gers striker Alfredo Morelos, who has enjoyed a sensational start to life at Ibrox.
The Scotsman recently reported that five Championship sides have been scouting the youngster – who only arrived at Rangers in the summer – but it would be a surprise if a Premier League side did not make a move if Morelos continues to impress until the January transfer window opens.

Going into the Light Blues’ League Cup clash with Partick Thistle on Tuesday, Morelos had scored eight goals in his last six games, and shown plenty of versatility in scoring those goals.
Southampton’s struggles in front of goal meanwhile, have continued into this season with Davis’ winner against Crystal Palace at the weekend proving to be just their fourth league goal this term.
Therefore, Southampton should keep a keen eye on Morelos over the coming months as his start to life with Rangers suggests that he has a huge amount of potential.
And if the Saints do join the race for the 21-year-old and he proves to be as good a signing as Davis has been, then the Saints could be reflecting on another inspired deal in years to come.
