The French winger would be a useful addition to the Southampton squad.

Southampton boss Mark Hughes will surely be keen to add more creativity to his side, and despite the fact that the transfer window is slammed shut, there is still the possibility for clubs to sign free agents.

With this in mind, the Saints should consider a move for Frenchman Hatem Ben Arfa, who is available on a free transfer following his release from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 31-year-old winger is a real live-wire, and he possesses the ability to change a game at the drop of a hat with a little bit of magic – something that Southampton desperately need following Dusan Tadic’s exit from St Mary’s.

Hughes did bring five new signings into the club this summer, but there is definitely still room for another winger, and Ben Arfa could be just the ticket.

He already has experience of playing in England, having spent time with Newcastle and Hull City, and despite a checkered past, he is now at an age where he seems to have fully matured and developed as both a player and a human being.

Ben Arfa can play anywhere along the front-line, and operates with a certain kind of directness that would undoubtedly help Southampton improve upon the potency of their play in the final third.

His availability on a free makes a move for him a no-brainer for the Saints, and Hughes should not think twice about bringing the French winger to St Mary’s.
