Southampton are competing with Aston Villa and West Ham United for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to The Daily Mail.

Villa and West Ham are reportedly keen on the 24-year-old, described on Chelsea’s official website as ‘a talented box-to-box midfielder capable of controlling games and playing in attack’.

The report in The Daily Mail has claimed that Southampton are also looking at the England international on a loan deal, but his wages would be an issue, and that the Saints would want Chelsea to subsidise part of his salary.

Stats

Loftus-Cheek made two starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Chelsea last season, providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the 24-year-old England international made six starts and 18 substitute appearances in the league for the Blues, scoring six goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

Good signing for Southampton?

With Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harrison Reed and Mario Lemina having left Southampton this summer, the Saints could do with a dynamic midfielder in their team this season.

Loftus-Cheek is a very good midfielder who knows the Premier League well, and his quality and experience would make the Saints a better team.
