Southampton have been listed as one of the Premier League clubs that are considering a move for Marco Silva.

The Daily Mail recently suggested that Southampton would consider targeting Hull City’s Marco Silva should they decide to part company with Claude Puel at the end of the season.

And while that decision may prove a popular one with a fair section of the Saints’ fanbase due to Puel’s unpopularity amongst some and Silva’s tremendous record with Hull, it may also boost the club’s hopes of bringing in one of their recent transfer targets.

The Sun reported back in January that Southampton were one of the clubs that were keeping a keen eye on Harry Maguire’s progress at the KCOM Stadium, and their need to sign a new centre-back has surely been increased by the fact that Virgil van Dijk’s departure seems inevitable (via The Sun).

Maguire has been exceptional for the Tigers this term, and it would hardly be a surprise if there were a number of sides ready to offer him the chance to leave the club in the summer.

The Saints should surely be one of the teams wanting to bag his signature as they undoubtedly need more depth at the heart of their defence regardless of whether they manage to keep van Dijk or not.

And by replacing Puel with Silva – which some may feel is a harsh decision given what the Frenchman has achieved during his first season at St Mary’s – they may well move up the queue as Maguire will know what working under Silva will be like, and will surely feel that he can thrive after being reunited with him.
