The Saints signed the prolific striker earlier in July and the St Mary’s boss is impressed with what he’s seen so far from the 22-year-old.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has given his initial verdict on Che Adams following his first few days with the Premier League club, in conversation with their official website.

At the start of July, the 22-year-old striker made the switch to the Saints from Championship side Birmingham City on a five-year-deal for a reported £15million fee after three years at St Andrew’s, where he scored 38 goals in 123 appearances (BBC Sport).

With Southampton having gone to Austria for an intensive pre-season camp, Hasenhuttl has been able to keep a close eye on Adams in training and he seems impressed with what he’s seen so far from the prolific forward.

“I think it’s important for him to be immediately part of the group,” Hasenhuttl told the Southampton website. “I think he enjoys so far what we do with him and he shows that he is a very robust and good team player.

“I think it’s important he gets to know as soon as possible what it’s about to play in the forward position in this team. He is open-minded, he wants to learn very quick, and that is exactly what we need.”

Adams enjoyed a superb season in the Championship in 2018-19 despite the Blues’ struggles on and off the pitch, notching up an impressive 22 goals plus four assists, according to Transfermarkt.

The former England Under-20s ace is Southampton’s second summer signing, following the arrival of Mali winger Moussa Djenepo from Standard Liege, although the latter has been on Africa Cup of Nations duty and is yet to link up with his new club.
