The Manchester City man could be the ideal summer addition for Southampton.
Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium
Saints fans will be heading into this summer’s transfer window with trepidation, rather than enthusiasm, following so many years of heartache, with many of their best players being shipped on to pastures new.
This time, however, it will be vitally important for Southampton to buck that trend by keeping hold of their star names, whilst supplementing them with some signings of genuine quality.
One particular area where the south coast outfit need to improve is central midfield, with the addition of a ball playing, technically apt midfielder surely featuring highly on their agenda.
With this in mind, the Saints should consider an approach for Citizens star Fabian Delph, who is available for £12 million this summer, according to the Chronicle.

Whilst that kind of money represents superb value for someone of the 27-year-old’s quality, it is likely that Southampton would have to actually pay more than that to obtain his signature, with so many potentially interested parties, including the likes of Newcastle, West Brom and Stoke City.
The City man is precisely what the Saints need though, and subsequently they should do everything within their power to bring the England international to St Mary’s.
Delph possesses wonderful vision, and a vast array of passing skills. He is comfortable in possession, and can play in a variety of positions across midfield.
The former Aston Villa and Leeds United man could play at the base of Southampton’s midfield, alongside the more tenacious Oriol Romeu, from where he could dictate the tempo of the game.

He could also be utilised further up the pitch, in the number 10 position, where he could have a more direct influence on the Saints’ attacking play.
Delph’s arrival on the south coast would surely improve Southampton as a football team, and the signing of an England international, rather than the sale of one could finally give Saints fans something to shout about.
And with the transfer window now open, this will certainly be one to keep an eye on.
