Southampton fell to a 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Friday night.

Fraser Forster 6.5/10 – Forster could not be blamed for either of Manchester United’s goals, and showed his frustration as he lashed the ball into the crowd late in the game.
Cedric Soares 6.5/10 – Southampton’s attacking right-back started well as it looked like there was something in the game for the Saints, but was forced further and further back as United began to dominate.
Jose Fonte 6/10 – Linked with United earlier in the week, the Portuguese defender could not live with the power of Ibrahimovic and was easily out-jumped when the Swede headed home the first goal.
Virgil Van Dijk 6.5/10 – Van Dijk was another frustrated figure, and tried to force the issue with some bursting runs from the back but to no avail.

Matt Targett 5/10 – A horrible night for the young left-back. Targett was caught out of position way too frequently, and was nowhere to be seen as Rooney crossed for Ibrahimovic for the opener. Targett’s delivery also left a lot to be desired.
Oriol Romeu n/a – Romeu was deployed at the base of Claude Puel’s diamond, but his evening was cut short when injury forced him off after 12 minutes.
Steven Davis 6.5/10 – The Northern Irishman did his best but could not stop Pogba dominating the midfield. He also had to bail out Targett and saved what looked like a potential goal for Mourinho’s men.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7/10 – The 21-year-old was a shining light for Southampton, and used the ball well. Once he fully adapts to the Premier League, Hojbjerg could prove to be a very good signing for the Saints.

Dusan Tadic 7/10 – The other positive for Southampton. Dusan Tadic constantly looked to create things for his side, and had a goal correctly disallowed for offside.
Shane Long 6/10 – Long had Southampton’s best chance, but rushed to take the shot on and squandered a golden opportunity to put his team in front.
Nathan Redmond 6.5/10 – After an impressive debut, Redmond started brightly by picking up some good positions and threatening in behind. As the game went on, Redmond’s decision-making got worse and he became much less of a threat.

SUBSTITUTES
Jordy Clasie (Romeu 12) 5/10 – The Dutchman was brought on early to replace the injured Romeu, but had a night to forget. Clasie gave away a penalty which allowed United to go 2-0 up, just as Southampton looked as if they were getting back into the game.
Charlie Austin (Davis 67) 6/10 – Austin was brought on to add firepower to Southampton, but was given zero service and consequently had no impact on proceedings.
Jay Rodriguez (Long 84) n/a/10 – The forward did not have enough time to make an impact.
