Southampton, who parted company with Claude Puel on Wednesday, could go head to head with Crystal Palace as they search for his successor.

There is a new favourite to succeed Claude Puel at Southampton, after Thomas Tuchel apparently ruled himself out of contention [Sky Bet].
Former Ajax and Internazionale boss Frank de Boer is now as short as 7/4 to take over at St Mary’s, with Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pellegrino, most recently of Deportivo Alaves, behind the Dutchman with odds of 6/1.

Ryan Giggs, the ex-Manchester United winger, is also highly placed at 7/1, ahead of Nice’s Lucian Favre, Reading’s Jaap Stam [both 10/1] and Tuchel at 12s.
And should Southampton pursue an interest in two of those aforementioned candidates in particular, it could well lead to ramifications for their Premier League rivals Crystal Palace – who also have their eye on De Boer and Pellegrino, according to the bookies.

Pellegrino is 11/10 favourite for the Selhurst Park post, with De Boer third in the running at 3/1 – slightly longer odds than are currently being offer for Southampton.
Interestingly, Puel himself is next on the list of likely Palace appointments at 14/1. The Frenchman was the first manager to be sacked by the Saints since Nigel Adkins in early 2013.
