Southampton should pay close attention to Andreas Christensen’s reported desire to quit Chelsea.

The Metro report Christensen says he will not submit a transfer request while admitting he is unhappy at his lack of playing time.

The Danish international has lost his starting spot to a rejuvenated David Luiz and 2017 signing Antonio Rudiger, with new manager Maurizio Sarri only viewing him as a back-up.

Christensen is a player Southampton should pursue, and hope he can become a regular for the Saints for the next few seasons.

Ryan Bertand quit Chelsea for the Saints in 2015 and has settled at the club after a mixed time at Chelsea.

Christensen is also experiencing an up and down ride at Stamford Bridge, where he was previously favoured by Antonio Conte.

The 22-year-old is an exciting prospect who impressed in the Bundesliga in two seasons on loan at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

At Moenchengladbach he played alongside Saints defender Jannik Vestergaard and could reform this partnership at St Mary’s.

Southampton would be smart to invest in the centre-back, who could become their best player in the position since they sold Virgil van Dijk a year ago.

He would have great resale potential, making any investment now look like a potential bargain.
