Matt Le Tissier has offered a glowing endorsement to Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhutt and pointed out one thing that has impressed him so far about the Austrian.

The 50-year-old, who recently became an official Southampton ambassador, made 540 appearances and scored 209 times during a league career spent entirely at the south coast club.

Given he was voted the greatest Saints player of all time in a poll earlier this decade, his words hold much clout among the club’s supporters and staff.

Although the Saints are now in the Premier League relegation zone, the Austrian appears to have had a galvanising effect on the players, who seem much improved as shown by their performance in the 0-0 draw at Chelsea.

With the transfer window currently open, Le Tiss told the Southern Daily Echo how Hasenhuttl hasn’t simply urged the club to get the chequebook out in order to bring in new players, but is eager to work with who he currently has and take a calmer approach.

“The good thing about Ralph is that he hasn’t come in demanding ten new players,” said Le Tissier.

Matt Le Tissier answers questions during Gillette Soccer Saturday Live with Jeff Stelling on March 19, 2012 at the Bournemouth International Centre in Bournemouth, England.

“He’s quite happy to have a look at the squad and take his time to decide what he feels he needs to strengthen. If that just means one or two in in January then perhaps a bigger change-around in the summer then so be it.”

This month, Southampton will face Leicester City, Everton and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as well as an FA Cup third-round replay at home to Derby County with the potential of a trip to Accrington Stanley in the next round.

With Hasenhuttl eager to bide his time in terms of transfers, the next few games could give him a clearer idea with regards to who he should look to bring in and bolster the team’s ranks.
