Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez is now targeting a run of games after returning to fitness in order to find his best form, the Daily Echo reports.

Rodriguez featured for the Saints in their 1-0 loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro and says he feels well in terms of fitness after a battle with injuries which stemmed from tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in April 2014.

The forward is quoted in the Daily Echo, saying: “I feel fine, I felt great. I just want more and more of it.

“That’s what I need and I’m sure the goals will come. I just need to keep my fitness and keep on the field.”

“I need regular games. That’s the main thing. I need a run of games to find my form and the goals will come.”

The 27-year-old will now hope that his injury worries are behind him. It was inevitable that there would be the odd muscle injury following his recovery from a long lay-off, but Rodriguez is right to say that regular game time will contribute to him getting back to somewhere near his best.

So far he has scored two goals from six games. At the moment it’s probably more important for him to just get more games and establish a rhythm and degree of fitness and then he will find the net regularly – though he will no doubt take a ratio of one in three if he played around 30 games this season.

Flashes of the form and talent displayed prior to his injury in 2014 have been on show during his appearances so far, and many will be happy at seeing the forward playing on a regular basis in the coming weeks if he keeps himself fit.
