The Saints winger has improved greatly under Ralph Hasenhuttl’s stewardship at the Premier League club.

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has shared how Nathan Redmond is one of several key Saints players that he wants to build his team around for next season and beyond, and also disclosed what he recently told him in a meeting about his future at the club.
In 43 appearances this term, the 25-year-old scored nine goals and registered six assists (Transfermarkt) in all competitions, and all of his goals came after the Austrian took the reins in December following Mark Hughes’ departure.
It marks a superb turnaround for Redmond, who aside from not netting this season before the Austrian’s arrival, also came for some intense criticism last season – a snapshot of some of the fan reaction from the 1-0 win over Swansea City last May is testament to that.
Indeed, Redmond was voted the Fans’ Player of the Season earlier this month and also bagged the Players’ Player of the Season prize thanks to a campaign in which he maintained consistency and delivered for the team in their successful battle against relegation.

“In general it’s a lot about taking a lot of responsibility for the team because he’s now a very experienced player, a few years here now and a guy we want to build the team around,” Hasenhuttl is quoted by the Daily Echo as saying. “He, Pierre Hojbjerg and a few more players we have a good core and that’s the reason why we want to build a new team around these guys.
“I think it was in a meeting with him and I said I enjoyed very much to work with him so far but I can’t see the limits for him. I want a Nathan Redmond who shows again he can make a difference in our game and that’s exactly what he wants to do. We will be focused from the first day of pre-season to make him better.”
Redmond has been at Southampton since his 2016 move from Norwich City and his spell at St Mary’s has yielded 129 appearances, 18 goals and 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt.
