Ralph Hasenhuttl hopes the Tenerife trip will allow Saints to prepare for the later stages of the Premier League campaign in “perfect” conditions.
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has announced that the squad and coaches will travel to Tenerife next week for a warm-weather training camp.
The Austrian will be bringing his charges to the Canary Island for a rigorous five-day training camp, where he will put the players through their paces in hopes of boosting their battle against relegation from the Premier League.
Given the Saints are no longer in the FA Cup and the weekend of 16-17 February will see the fifth round being played out with no Premier League fixtures tabled in, the south coast club has time off between this Saturday’s league home game against Cardiff City and the trip to Arsenal on 24 February.
Under Hasenhuttl, Southampton have experienced an upturn in form and a complete shift in atmosphere at St Mary’s, but they still remain precariously close to the relegation zone, so the former RB Leipzig coach is eager to review his players’ progress with a series of individual meetings.
“It’s a very good time for us to look back on the last two months,” Hasenhuttl said in conversation with the Daily Echo. “We’ve spent a lot of time with the guys and invested a lot and I think it’s time to make a review.”
