Southampton forward Charlie Austin has praised Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk on Twitter for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening.
Van Dijk played well for Liverpool in their 2-0 win against Premier League rivals Tottenham in the final of the Champions League at Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.
Mohamed Salah put the Reds in the lead as early as the second minute when he scored from the penalty spot, and Divock Origi doubled the advantage on 87 minutes.
Southampton forward Austin was following the match, and he has praised Van Dijk on Twitter, claiming that the former Celtic star is the best centre-back in the world.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea right-back Mario Melchiot has also hailed the 27-year-old Netherlands international centre-back.
Van Dijk was brilliant at the back for Liverpool against Tottenham, and the Dutchman once again showed just how good he is.
The Netherlands international is certainly one of the best defenders in the world, and at 27, he can only improve.
