A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Nathan Redmond, who came off injured in the Saints’ 1-0 win at Fulham in the Carabao Cup second round.

Not long after setting up Michael Obafemi for Southampton’s winning goal at Craven Cottage, the winger had to be helped off the pitch by two physios after appearing to fall awkwardly on his ankle.

Redmond appeared in severe pain as he clutched his ankle, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl describing it post-match as a “shocking moment” and, while expressing relief at it not being swollen, admitted his player was in a lot of pain (Daily Echo).

As of Wednesday morning there had been no further communication from Southampton regarding Redmond’s ankle issue and some supporters were left sweating over how long the player could be out for.

Others were more optimistic regarding who could fill in for him, with Moussa Djenepo, Sofiane Boufal and Stuart Armstrong mentioned as contenders.

Here is some of the reaction on social media:

Redmond has come in leaps and bounds at Southampton over the past year and only this summer signed a new four-year contract with the Saints which ties him to the club until the summer of 2023.
