The striker, who split the Saints fanbase’s opinion recently, has left St Mary’s to join Slaven Bilic’s Baggies in their quest to bring Premier League football to The Hawthorns.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the news that Charlie Austin has left the Saints to join West Bromwich Albion (official Southampton website).

The 30-year-old joined the Baggies on transfer deadline day after three-and-a-half seasons at St Mary’s Stadium, in which he made 81 appearances and scored 20 goals.

Austin, who has netted 150 goals in 325 professional appearances including 70 in 132 Championship games, has penned a two-year contract at The Hawthorns.

While the fee has not been disclosed by either club, BBC Sport reported that the forward has made the switch after a £4million fee was agreed between the two sides.

Quite a few Saints supporters were happy to see the back of Austin, who had not exactly endeared himself to the fanbase over the summer, as per the general reaction to one of his tweets in July in which he seemingly suggested that he had been frozen out of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s plans:

However, there were also messages on social media thanking him for his efforts in the red and white and telling West Brom fans he would be a good signing for them:

Austin could feature in West Brom’s first home game of the Championship season as Millwall come to The Hawthorns.
