Southampton fans react on Twitter to Under-23s exit in Premier League International Cup

Southampton Under-23s have enjoyed a superb campaign so far but unfortunately their Premier League International Cup journey came to an end at the semi-final stage against Dinamo Zagreb.

St Mary’s Stadium played host to the young Saints – and their Croatian counterparts, both sides hoping to set up a showdown with Bayern Munich in the final of the competition.

A bright start to the game for both teams saw the visitors take the lead through Leon Sipos, who connected with Antonio Marin’s cutback from the byline to rifle past Harry Lewis.

However, Southampton levelled on 22 minutes, Will Smallbone delivering a pinpoint cross for Harry Hamblin to head beyond the reach of Dinamo goalkeeper Dinko Horkas.

The goalscorer was sent off on 36 minutes for a challenge on Marko Gjira and after that, the away side went on to add two more goals, through Marko Gjira and Petar Cuic.
