A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate the news that Nathan Redmond has signed a new four-year contract with the Saints which ties him to the club until the summer of 2023.

The news (official Southampton website) marks another positive development in the 25-year-old’s career at St Mary’s since Ralph Hasenhuttl took the reins last December following Mark Hughes’s exit.

In 43 appearances in all competitions last term, Redmond scored nine goals and registered six assists (Transfermarkt), all of his goals coming after the Austrian coach took over.

As such, the attacking ace earned a place in Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for June’s UEFA Nations League finals, proof of just how far he had come in a relatively short amount of time.

The latest development marks a superb turnaround for Redmond who, aside from not having scored last term before Hasenhuttl’s arrival, also came for some criticism the previous season – as can be seen in a cross-section of Twitter fan reaction from the crucial 1-0 win over Swansea City.

Here is what some Southampton fans said on social media regarding the news:

Redmond joined Southampton from Norwich City in 2016 for a reported £12.15million fee, with his value now deemed £18million by Transfermarkt.

Ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, which begins with Saints heading to Burnley, Redmond’s appearance and goal record for the club stands at 129 appearances and 18 goals.
