The Saints midfielder reportedly cost the Premier League club £8m in 2015 but he has failed to make much of an impact at St Mary’s.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the prospect of Saints fringe player Jordy Clasie leaving St Mary’s Stadium (Daily Echo).
Arne Slot, the incoming head coach of Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, confirmed that the club has spoken to the 27-year-old about a potential return to his native Netherlands, as quoted by the Daily Echo.
“Jordy himself is enthusiastic, it is now up to Max Huiberts (sporting director) to get out with him and with Southampton,” said Slot. “I spoke to Jordy about what his role could be in the team. Jordy is good at the ball, good at the passing and that, in combination with our players with depth, is what we are looking for at that position.”
Huiberts added: “Sometimes there is a chance to get this kind of boy. The trainer has been in contact with him. Jordy Clasie has a one-year contract with Southampton. We have to wait and see how this develops. It is still quiet. This period is still to be scanned. If large transfers take place with Dutch players in the large countries, it will become a bit more restless.”
Clasie joined Southampton in the summer of 2015 from Feyenoord for a reported £8million but he struggled to make an impact and has spent the last two seasons on loan, at Club Brugge in 2017-18 and back at Feyenoord in 2018-19 (Transfermarkt).
With just 49 senior Saints appearances under his belt in the last four years and his contract up at the end of next season, it would appear that his days at the South Coast club are numbered.
In terms of fan opinion on the social media platform, the majority of supporters seem happy to cut their losses and see him go:
