The Saints U23s captain and St Mary’s academy graduate has been impressive for the Premier League club.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to praise Callum Slattery after the Saints academy ace was nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award (Saints website).
The Southampton Under-23s captain, who has been at the St Mary’s club for over a decade, weighed in with some very impressive performances for the young Saints during September.
Slattery put in an especially bright display in last month’s 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s, where he provided the assist for Aaron O’Driscoll’s headed winner.
The 20-year-old has also featured for England at Under-20s level and was part of the Young Lions team that won the 2017 Toulon Tournament, netting the fourth penalty in the shootout in the final against Ivory Coast.
Here is what some Southampton supporters said on Twitter after the Saints feed shared the good news:
Slattery was recently the subject of the Daily Mail’s Secret Scout feature, in which the scout said the £500,000-rated player clearly looked like “captain material”.
In addition, the scout claimed that “in this game it was mainly through his prompting, encouragement and leadership that his team clawed back a two-goal deficit to draw” – presumably referring to the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on 13 September (Transfermarkt).
