A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to praise Sofiane Boufal for his kind and positive comments on the Premier League club and the Saints fans, in conversation with the club’s media team.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who was given an extended break due to playing for Morocco in this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations, was linked with a departure from St Mary’s Stadium this summer.

The Daily Echo claimed that reports from France suggesting that Nice had agreed on an £8.5million fee with Southampton for Boufal were in fact wide of the mark, while El Desmarque linked the player with Marseille.

In the summer of 2016, Southampton broke their transfer record to sign Boufal from French side Lille for £16million (BBC Sport), but when he was shipped out on loan to Celta Vigo by former manager Mark Hughes, it looked as though his time on the south coast was set to come to an end.

The player himself took to Twitter recently to say he is “100 per cent” committed to staying at St Mary’s (Daily Echo) this season, and in conversation with the Southampton media team after the Carabao Cup win at Fulham he said: “I have a very good relationship with the fans and feel very proud to be part of this team.

“I have a good relationship with the fans, they know what i can do and I want to say thank you to the fans for their support. Directly when I came (back) here I said to the club, I dont want to leave, I want to stay, because I want to achieve very good things here.”

Boufal’s comments were very well appreciated by the fanbase and quite a few Saints faithful made their feelings known about the player on social media:
