Southampton endured a largely miserable Boxing Day as they were thrashed 5-2 at Wembley.
Nathan Redmond
Southampton fans have been slamming Nathan Redmond on Twitter after Mauricio Pellegrino’s side were thumped 5-2 at Wembley by Tottenham to make it seven games without a win for the south coast side.
The Saints went into the clash with Spurs off the back of three draws and three defeats since they last won a game – which came at the end of November when they thrashed Everton at St Mary’s – and Tottenham put the game beyond doubt within an hour.
Mauricio Pellegrino
Harry Kane scored twice in the first-half after some sloppy defending before Dele Alli and Son Heung-min made it 4-0 inside 51 minutes. The Saints may have scored two of the next three goals, but there was certainly little for Pellegrino’s men and the travelling fans to smile about.
There were a number of players who came in for criticism on social media after the game, and the player who seemed to attract possibly the most was Redmond – who played a crucial role in Spurs’ fourth goal.

The Saints were on the attack when the winger’s misplaced pass allowed the home side to counter and Son to make it four – and it prompted a number of fans to boo their own player whenever he got onto the ball during the rest of the game.
While the majority of Southampton supporters slammed many of their own for booing Redmond, there was still a lot of anger about his performance, and many are questioning whether he is good enough to be a regular in the side, having provided no goals and three assists in the top flight this season.
