Southampton may still find themselves outside of the relegation zone in the Premier League, but the manner of the latest defeat will have understandably left a number of Saints fans feeling extremely furious with the direction the club appear to be going in.

It was not too long ago that the south coast club were being praised for the way that they manage to register top-half finish after top-half finish despite having to replace a number of their better players each summer.

Unfortunately for the Saints fans, it appears that their success in replacing those players is a thing of the past as they now find themselves one place and one point above the bottom three. The fact that the only team that they have beaten in the league since the end of November is West Brom certainly provides an indication of how worrying things are at St Mary’s right now.

In January, the fans may have felt that they had reason to be more positive as Southampton pulled off a club-record deal to bring Monaco striker Guido Carrillo to the Premier League.

However, after their latest outing – the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at St James’ Park – it appears that any optimism regarding the 26-year-old has disappeared.

Some fans have slammed Mauricio Pellegrino for picking just one striker as it has made the Argentinian look isolated most of the time that he has been on the pitch in a red and white shirt, but other supporters are just convinced that the forward is not good enough after his performance against the Magpies.
