Southampton fans react on Twitter as Callum Slattery scores brace for U21s

Southampton U21s were in EFL Trophy action last night and the St Mary’s academy graduate did well for the Saints youngsters.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to praise midfielder Callum Slattery’s display for the Saints Under-21s last night.

The Southampton Under-23s captain, who has been at the St Mary’s Stadium club for over a decade, has weighed in with some very impressive performances this term.

On Tuesday night, Slattery dragged his side back in the game as the Saints locked horns with Coventry in the EFL Trophy and ended up going two goals down.

The 20-year-old slotted home from the penalty spot after Christian Norton had been clipped in the box and then rifled from distance through the legs of Ben Wilson.

It wasn’t to be for Southampton in the end as Max Biamou completed his hat-trick in stoppage time to knock the Saints out of the competition but some fans believed Slattery should be considered by Ralph Hasenhuttl for this weekend’s Premier League game.
