Southampton and Liverpool drew 0-0 this weekend as the hosts put up an impressive rearguard action.

Southampton held high-flying Liverpool to a goalless draw on Saturday, as Claude Puel’s men continued to impress.

The Reds are overrunning most teams with their attacking flair but Southampton held firm and were good value for their point.

The result means Southampton are 10th in the table with 14 points from their first 12 matches, and while they are closer to the relegation zone than the European places there are plenty of reasons to feel positive.

Among the Southampton players on show on Saturday was recent signing Sofiane Boufal, who was making his first Premier League start since arriving at St. Mary’s in the summer.

Boufal played for 66 minutes but his creative instinct was tempered somewhat by the need to defend in numbers and keep Liverpool at bay. In short, it was not a game for the young winger to shine.
