Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after Goal‘s Nizaar Kinsella (16:30) revealed that Ryan Bertrand is close to signing a new three-year contract at St Mary’s.
The England international has become a mainstay in the Saints’ side under a number of different managers following a £10 million move from Chelsea in 2015.
Bertrand has played under Ronald Koeman, Claude Puel, Mark Hughes and Ralph Hasenhuttl on the south coast.
The 31-year-old has made a total of 212 appearances for Southampton, more than he has made for any other club throughout his career.
In that time, he has scored eight goals and recorded 19 assists, while also helping the club reach the Europa League and also the League Cup final.

The Champions League winning full-back is a key player for Hasenhuttl, so this news should come as a big boost to Southampton and their supporters.
Transfermarkt shows Bertrand’s current deal expires in June, so it is imperative that the Saints tie him down, or he would be able to walk away for nothing next year.

The London-born left-back has made six appearances in all competitions for Southampton this season, helping them sit 12th in the Premier League on seven points.
Let’s see what the Southampton fans on Twitter have been saying about the news…
