Tottenham Hotspur raided Southampton to sign one Danish contract rebel last summer – and history could repeat itself this summer.
Spurs snapped up Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg inside the final year of his Southampton contract, and he has become a fan favourite at Tottenham this season.
Now, The Mirror report that Spurs are interested in signing Saints centre back Jannik Vestergaard, whose deal expires in 2022.
The giant centre back has impressed this season, rebuilding his Saints career having seemed a little out of favour under Ralph Hasenhuttl at times last term.
Jose Mourinho now allegedly wants him to join Hojbjerg at Spurs, believing that the 6ft 6in defender can make a huge impact in Tottenham’s defence.
Having landed a bargain in Hojbjerg, Spurs may hope for the same with Vestergaard – and Southampton fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the rumours.
Some fans want Japhet Tanganga sent to Southampton as part of any deal, with Oliver Skipp and Troy Parrott mentioned as other makeweights.
Others suggest that Vestergaard is ‘class’ and ‘excellent’, but wouldn’t be surprised if Southampton cash in this summer before Vestergaard walks away in 2022.
