Southampton and Norwich City went head-to-head this weekend.
Southampton began their latest FA Cup campaign with a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City this weekend, and with time ticking down it seemed the Saints would seal a much needed win.
That was not to be, with Steven Naismith’s injury-time header securing a 2-2 draw and ensuring the two sides have to do it all again at St Mary’s later this month.
Southampton defender Maya Yoshida thought he had won it with a fine header of his own but it was not to be, and it was interesting to gauge the fan reaction to the Japanese international given the recent criticism that has come his way.
Yoshida has regularly been blamed for any defensive lapses from the Saints and he is often the scapegoat. However his towering header against Norwich and his all-round display proved that he is not letting that get him down.
If Jose Fonte leaves the club this month following his transfer request, Yoshida can expect plenty more chances to prove his doubters wrong.
