Southampton went head-to-head with their former manager Ronald Koeman when they took on his Everton side this week.

Southampton crashed to a 3-0 defeat away to Everton on Monday, courtesy of second-half goals from Enner Valencia, Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku.

The Saints impressed with their defensive displays in the early months of the campaign, but they have been considerably less sturdy in recent weeks and their manager Claude Puel will be desperate to see a positive change early in 2017.

Maya Yoshida made his second consecutive league start against the Toffees, but he was unable to keep Ronald Koeman’s side at bay.

The Japan international has had to wait patiently for Premier League chances this season yet he has featured in three of their last four outings – two of which have been defeats.
