The Saints legend will be an official ambassador for the Premier League club, and some Southampton fans praised the announcement.
Southampton have confirmed that Matt Le Tissier has become an official ambassador for the club.
The 50-year-old is a bona fide Saints legend, having made 540 appearances and scored 209 times during a league career spent entirely at the south coast club.
Le Tissier, who was voted the greatest Southampton player of all time earlier this decade, hung up his boots in 2003 following a stint at non-league Eastleigh.
Since retiring from professional football, he has made a name for himself as a leading pundit on Sky Sports, but he will now be taking once again on an increased presence at St Mary’s.
According to the official Southampton website, part of Le Tissier’s new role will see him involved with the club’s work in the community, as well as its activities around the world.

As well as his exploits at Southampton, Le Tissier also played for England, with his omission for the 1998 World Cup squad being described as a “real hammer blow” in a 2014 interview in the Telegraph.
