Scott Arfield has shone in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers – but will Southampton really offer him a fresh start in the Premier League?

With 11 goals and eight assists, Scott Arfield is enjoying the most productive season of his career at Rangers.
The 30-year-old Canada international moved back to Scotland on a free last summer after have a decade at Burnley and has enjoyed a new lease of life at Ibrox, channelling his manager Steven Gerrard with some fine strikes from midfield.
But that does not mean Southampton fans are thrilled about reports linking Arfield with a shock move to St Mary’s.
The Mail reported this week that The Saints are keen to bring Arfield back to the Premier League with Rangers valuing him at a very affordable price of £3 million.

But after years of underachievement and some truly dreadful recruitment, Southampton fans are keen to see their club go back to their roots – essentially, promoting youth and signing promising, up-and-coming talents rather than players who will be 31 by the time 2019 comes to an end.
Arfield has had a fine season and boasts plenty of Premier League experience – but he really doesn’t fit the bill for a Southampton side who are desperate to bring back the glory days of a few years ago.
