Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise upon Josh Sims after the winger helped Mauricio Pellegrino’s side snatch a point from their clash with Burnley at Turf Moor.

The Saints went into the game off the back of a win last weekend that saw them book their ticket to the quarter-final of the FA Cup where they will face League One leaders Wigan Athletic – but their positive cup run has done little to lift the gloom at St Mary’s with the club boasting just one win in the league since the end of November.

And it appeared that it may be another disappointing day for Pellegrino’s men as they went into the final minutes 1-0 down thanks to Ashley Barnes bundling the ball home in the second-half.

However, Manolo Gabbiadini ensured that the points would be shared and the Saints would be able to lift themselves out of the bottom three in the Premier League as he scored the equaliser from close range.

But while it was Gabbiadini who grabbed the goal, it was Sims’ display that was lauded by the Southampton fans on social media after the draw. The youngster came off the bench with just over 20 minutes to go and was hugely impressive.

He gave impetus to a Saints side that looked somewhat resigned to defeat before his introduction, hitting the post with one effort before putting in the cross that allowed Gabbiadini to bag the equaliser.

And a number of the Southampton fans have urged Pellegrino to make sure that the 20-year-old – who had only made two substitute appearances for the first-team this season before the game against the Clarets – is in the starting lineup for Saturday’s home clash with Stoke.

Here is the best of the reaction…
