Southampton’s Europa League group opened up a little last night after they were beaten 1-0 by Inter Milan at the San Siro.
The Saints are still in a decent position to qualify after three games having taken four points but Antonio Candreva’s strike means that all four teams in the group are covered by just the three points – meaning it’s all to play for to qualify for the knock-out stages.

Marcelo Brozovic was dismissed for the home side for two tackles deemed worthy of yellow cards by the referee and despite a display with several chances, the Saints couldn’t find a way through.
It was a positive performance from Claude Puel’s side, even if the result wasn’t what they wanted. They seemed pretty comfortable with the stage they were playing on – a symbol of how far the club has come over the past six years.
As for the playing side of things, there were a couple of impressive individual displays, but the performance of James Ward-Prowse seemed to catch the eye of a few fans on Twitter.

The 21-year-old was at the heart of Southampton midfield which largely had the measure of their opponents, while Ward-Prowse’s ability from set pieces allowed for several opportunities to be created.
