Charlie Austin did not impress the Southampton fans during Mark Hughes’ side’s latest fixture.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to slam Charlie Austin after the striker missed a penalty during the Saints’ Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Mark Hughes’ men followed up their first win of the campaign in midweek by bagging their first three points in the league this term during their trip to Selhurst Park.
The Saints broke the deadlock early on in the second-half with Danny Ings continuing to impress following his summer switch from Liverpool. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg would make the points safe in stoppage-time, but there was plenty of drama before the midfielder converted his chance.
Southampton could have secured the victory a lot sooner with Austin getting the opportunity to score from the penalty spot after being brought on shortly after the hour-mark.

But the Englishman saw his spot-kick saved as he was only able to test Wayne Hennessey with a tame effort that the goalkeeper managed to keep out with his legs.
His performance and the penalty itself prompted a number of fans to suggest that he is not good enough to be relied upon as an important member of the squad, especially when players such as Manolo Gabbiadini missed out on a place in the squad altogether.

Here is what some of the Saints fans made of Austin’s performance against the Eagles…
