Southampton were knocked out of the Carabao Cup, but there were some reasons for optimism to emerge from the game.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Yan Valery’s performance after the youngster made his senior debut in the Carabao Cup clash with Leicester City on Tuesday.

Michael Obafemi missed a golden chance during the second-half and the visitors also struck the upright on two occasions. But unfortunately, Manolo Gabbiadini had his spot-kick saved by Danny Ward as Leicester set up a quarter-final with Manchester City.
It was a disappointing night for a Southampton side that have had little to smile about this season. But Valery’s display appears to have pleased some of the supporters on social media.

The 19-year-old was handed the task of trying to keep Demarai Gray quiet, and he generally did a good job. In fact, several fans have now suggested that they would like to see Mark Hughes keep faith with him against Manchester United.
It would be a big call to leave Cedric Soares out when Jose Mourinho’s men visit Old Trafford, but there are plenty of supporters who believe that Valery deserves another chance after his Saints debut.
