Paulo Gazzaniga has joined Tottenham from Southampton in a surprise move.
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.
The transfer had been rumoured over the past fortnight but is still a little of a surprise.
Gazzaniga’s prospects at present would have him as third choice on Tottenham’s squad, behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm.
The Argentine worked under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, and evidently has the trust of the head coach.
Despite this Gazzaniga has a reputation for making errors, from his time at Southampton and on loan at Rayo Vallecano.
He will hope not to make these type of errors at Spurs, but last season’s third choice goalkeeper Pau Lopez did not even see competitive action during his loan from Espanyol.
The deal has been a little underwhelming for Tottenham supporters, who so far have had a quiet summer largely bereft of big signings, aside from the imminent addition of Davinson Sanchez.
Southampton fans have been the ones most confused by the deal, with Gazzaniga an afterthought in their first team picture prior to his departure.
