Southampton linked Theo Walcott failed to impress for Arsenal.
Theo Walcott has been recently linked with a departure from Arsenal with former club Southampton keen on his signature.
Yesterday Walcott was selected to start for Arsenal in their FA Cup clash against Nottingham Forest.
Unfortunately for Walcott and Arsenal, it did not go well, with Forest winning an upset 4-2.
It was just Walcott’s second start since November, and he did not do enough to justify Arsenal’s asking price. All three of his shots at goal missed the target.
His performance could have damaged his chance of a big money move this month, and will not have persuaded Southampton to splash the cash.
It could work in their favour if Arsenal now back down and reduce their asking price; and Walcott’s chances of playing time have reduced by the Gunners’ elimination from the FA Cup.
Walcott needs the game time to enhance his fading World Cup ambitions. An exit should be on the cards – if Southampton will have him.
