Stuart Taylor is set to be released by Southampton.

Stuart Taylor of Southampton looks on prior to the Premier League match between Southampton and Arsenal at St Mary's Stadium on May 10, 2017 in Southampton, England.

Southampton goalkeeper Stuart Taylor is leaving the club after two years as a back-up.

The veteran has not played a first team game since he left Leeds in 2015, and has made a career as a high profile reserve.

Southampton confirmed the decision yesterday.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper was once regarded as one of England’s brightest prospects, but his willingness to accept being a back-up has seen him become a punchline in recent seasons.

He had the respect of Southampton fans despite never making an appearance for the club, and was seen as a popular figure in the dressing room.
