Last night Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick against Porto at the Estadio Dragao as Liverpool thumped them 5-0.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Mane were terrific, with the Senegalese winger stealing the show.
Mane is one of several players Liverpool have signed from Southampton in recent seasons and he might just be the very best.
His hat-trick might not have been as fast as the record setting treble he scored against Aston Villa in 2016 for the Saints, but the grand stage of the Champions League made it the most important of his career so far.
Games like last night prove precisely why Mane and co swapped St Mary’s for Anfield, and there is plenty left to come at Liverpool, with the club effectively booking their place in the quarter-finals.
Southampton’s current struggles make it even tougher for their fans to stomach Mane’s heroics, with Pellegrino’s team in 18th place in the Premier League.
