Southampton fans have been heaping praise upon Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on Twitter after his brilliant performance in their emphatic 4-1 win over Everton at St Mary’s.
The Saints went into the clash looking for a dramatic upturn in form, having lost their previous two games and not winning a fixture in over a month – and the pressure was starting to mount on Mauricio Pellegrino with goals once again proving hard to come by.
But improve they did. And in some style, too. Southampton moved themselves up to 10th in the Premier League table as they thrashed the Toffees 4-1 to pile the misery on David Unsworth’s men.
While he was not amongst the scorers, Hojbjerg seemed to receive a huge amount of praise from the fans on social media, who have had to wait to see the former Bayern Munich man in action this season.
The 22-year-old had only been on the pitch for six minutes in the top flight this term before Sunday, but played the full 90 minutes against the Toffees, really shining in that holding midfield role to help Pellegrino’s men secure a hugely impressive win.
And he will be hoping that that display helps put a serious amount of pressure on some of his teammates also vying for a spot in the midfield.
