Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu produced an outstanding performance at St Mary’s.
A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Oriol Romeu’s outstanding performance during their 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday, with several suggesting it may have been his best display for the club.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men continued their comeback after losing their first two games of the new Premier League season. They beat Brighton last weekend and secured a spot in the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek with a narrow win at Fulham.
The Saints may have feared that they were in for a long afternoon when Daniel James gave the visitors the lead inside 10 minutes at St Mary’s. But the home side ensured that they go into the international break off the back of another positive result.
Jannik Vestergaard equalised just before the hour-mark, and the Saints battled superbly once they were reduced to 10 men when Kevin Danso was dismissed with just under 20 minutes remaining.
And one of the players who played a key role in ensuring that Southampton did hold onto the draw was Romeu, with the 27-year-old producing a brilliant display in the middle of the park.
Whoscored.com shows that Romeu made six successful challenges and boasted the best pass completion rate of any player who started in Southampton’s midfield.
And plenty of Saints fans on social media have lauded the Catalonia international. One supporter even suggested that he put in the performance of his life against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
