Southampton suffered a narrow defeat against Manchester United, but a number of their players impressed at St Mary’s.
Mario Lemina of Southampton and Marouane Fellaini of Manchester United compete for the ball
Southampton fans have been taking to Twitter to heap praise on Mario Lemina once again after he put in an excellent display in the Saints’ narrow defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
A look at the form table suggested that Mauricio Pellegrino’s men were facing an uphill battle trying to secure a positive result against United, with Jose Mourinho’s side going into the game second in the Premier League but only on alphabetical order after matching Manchester City’s start to the season after five games.

Meanwhile, the Saints had not scored in eight of their previous nine home games, so the home side were undoubtedly the underdogs.
But while Romelu Lukaku struck early on with what proved to be the winner, Southampton put up an excellent fight and had several chances of their own to equalise and deny United the three points for only the second time this term.

The one player who seemed to receive the most praise on social media following the contest was Lemina, who has enjoyed a brilliant start to life at St Mary’s following his summer switch from Juventus.
The Gabon international was dominant in the middle of the park against a United central midfield partnership that has often been exceptional this term, and his form has already left Saints fans concerned that his days on the south coast may be numbered as his performances will not go unnoticed.
