Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Jack Wilshere on a free transfer this summer.

Jack Wilshere of Arsenal is closed down by Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea during the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg at Emirates Stadium on January 24, 2018 in London, England.

Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the reports coming out of the Daily Mirror earlier this week which have suggested that Jack Wilshere is on the Saints’ radar as his contract at Arsenal runs into its final days.

Wilshere has been offered a new deal at the Emirates, but the Mirror reports that Unai Emery has informed the 26-year-old that he will not be an automatic starter in his side next season. The London Evening Standard reports that he currently earns £90,000-a-week with the Gunners.

The Mirror adds that the Saints have become the latest side to register an interest as Mark Hughes looks to ensure that his side find themselves nowhere near the bottom of the table after they came desperately close to being relegated this past season.

Wilshere appears to be the kind of signing that could really capture the imagination if he ended up at St Mary’s this summer. The midfielder looks to have proved over the last couple of years that his run of being plagued continuously by injury is over, and he often looked to be Arsenal’s best player last season.

Nevertheless, there are a number of Southampton fans on social media who have absolutely no interest in seeing Hughes make a move for the England international. Perhaps fearing that he cannot be relied upon fitness-wise and well aware of the kind of wages he could potentially demand, it seems that many supporters feel that a deal would be too much of a risk.

However, there are those who believe that he could be a superb signing if he did come in, especially as he would arrive on a free transfer this summer.
