Southampton fans have been having their say on the club deciding to release Jeremy Pied.

The Saints announced their retained and released list on their website yesterday, declaring 10 young players and senior professionals who will not be returning.

Most notable was right-back Jeremy Pied and rarely seen centre-back Florian Gardos.

Pied signed for Southampton under Claude Puel in 2016, only to struggle with injuries and he found it tough to hold down a place in the first team ahead of Cedric Soares.

The 28-year-old only made eight appearances for the Saints in total, with six of them coming this season.

Two of these this season were in the Premier League and he completed 90 minutes both times.

There is understandably a feeling that Southampton never saw the best out of him, but also a respect towards him, that when he did play, he contributed well.
